review 1: 4.5 Stars I received this book for free from the author through a Facebook giveaway...This is the first paranormal romance/urban fantasy book that I have read and let me just say, it did not disappoint. I loved everything about it, it was unique, sexy, and just all around a super fun read. It kept me on the edge of my seat, there was a surprise around every corner! I loved this new fresh take on vampires. I cannot wait to get my hands on the next book that is to come out. I just need more Sander in my life!!!! Oh and if you couldn't tell I'm TEAM SANDER...!
review 2: Sanguis City offered a pretty unique look into the world of vampires, at least the world created after vampires became its master. Let me start by saying that I loved this book. Morgan Jane's abi
... morelity to world build was exceptional. In most books I read, the history of the unique worlds is shoved down the reader's throat from the beginning. It feels like drinking from a fire hose. Instead, Morgan drops just enough hints about the history of the vampire's rise to power to leave you wanting so much more. Subtlety is often a lost art form in modern novels and Morgan truly excels in this arena. From the start of the book, Sanguis City seemed like an erotica novel. Since that's not a preferred genre for me, I nearly stopped reading. However, I had a distinct advantage of being able to talk to the author directly and was reassured that the sex was an advancement of the story and not the focus. She was absolutely correct. The sex was well done without dominating the story. The story itself focuses on a stratified society, with vampires at the top, bleeders (a cross between vampires and humans) in the middle, and humans assuming the lowest caste. The humans serve as a food source for the vampires and gladly submit to regular bleedings for the honor of living within the walled extravagance that is Sanguis City. The way Morgan created the city itself seemed very reminiscent of the world of Blade Runner. Since much of the story takes place at night, when the vampires were awake, the city was full of extravagant neon-lit nightclubs and people dressed far better than their environment would require. In a realm dominated by beautiful immortals, Noir is a unique bleeder. Raised by humans, she seems far more connected to her humanity than virtually all other of her kind. Throughout the novel, the reader is introduced the a number of hardships that Noir has to overcome, to include Zombies (not what you expect), malicious vampires, shapeshifters, and pheromones (which sometimes are more dangerous than someone trying to kill her).If you love the supernatural, I highly recommend this book. It's a fantastically unique take on the vampire genre. less
