review 1: I was a little worried because the last one seemed to be improving, but this one was pretty bad again, so yay! It is very much like passing an accident on the freeway, you can't not look.It ended with one of the most gigantic Duh! moments I think I have ever read. Did anyone not see that coming like 3 books ago? Pretty much since Alistar was introduced? (And it is totally a boy's name. Wasn't there a nice girl's name somewhere you could have used?)
review 2: For young adult readers, this book is a tidal wave of adventure, battles and twists. For an adult reader, it feels like Rice just throws a monkey wrench into things to stretch out the length of the series. This is one thing I don't like about many series.Rice does a great job of giving you characters that s
... moreeem real and you can care about. I've become disengaged from them mostly because I feel the series has taken some turns that are solely to extend the number of books required to arrive at a happy ending. They seem to fit the characters, yes, so it's still good story construction. Rice is a professional author to the core. The "twist" at the end of this book was one I had been predicting for the past two books. It has been done before. It is almost worse than the revealing of Thor's father in an earlier installment. "Luke, I am your father." Yep. It's been done - on the big screen before millions. I prefer more originality in my plot complications.Having said that, book 9 of the series is ready to read on my Kindle the next time I mount the treadmill. Yes, I've fallen into the trap of the series. less
