review 1: Naima Simone always delivers, and Malachim's story is no exception. Ms. Simone has a way of developing deeply damaged characters that make you root for their happiness until the very end, with some twists and turns thrown in to make you almost think they might not get it! Malachim is struggling through some tough times of his own when he meets Danielle, a victim of spousal abuse who has changed her identity and is hiding from her ex, a monster that you just know will track her down before the story is over. Get ready for some white-knuckle armchair gripping as she senses he's getting closer and closer!Malachim is part of a 4-book series about four men who have been friends since birth. So far, I've read three of them, not in the order they were released, and I've enjoyed a... morell of them. They definitely work well as stand-alones with enough subtle backstory to help you understand what has happened to the other men even if you haven't read their stories (but you'll want to!) I love Ms. Simone's writing and I can't wait to delve into the fourth book as well!
review 2: this author gets the terror, fear, desperation of spousal battering dead on. as a survivor, this had me on the edge of my seat....triggered many fears and memories. It's been 37 years but I remember all too well the feel of my abusers fingers squeezing the breath from my throat..banging my head into the floor until I blacked out. I eventually fled 3200 miles to avoid running into him at the grocery store, at a restaurant...I still can't be in the same room with him. this book got it just right. unfortunately for this survivor, turned out there were 2 stalkers! read this book....but if you're a survivor, prepare for triggers. less
