review 1: This was an interesting book that had a lot of information I didn't know, for example that white groups like the Irish were considered racially inferior in the past. It was definitely worth reading. But the author's style didn't really resonate with me. The text was a little stiff, with some typos like left out connecting words and periods where commas were intended. She was also a too casual in judging her sources - a scholarly author shouldn't use words like "cockamamie" or "weird" to describe a race theory, even if it is ridiculous.
review 2: This book was a bit too broad for me--it was so full of dates and names and jumped so frequently through eras of history that it was impossible for me to really get into any of the subject matter in-depth. However,
... moreit would be a great introduction to the history of race science for someone just starting to delve into the subject. It's also a great research reference/way to find sources on the topic that go more in-depth into a particular area of race study that interests you. I mainly picked it up for the section on eugenics (but decided to read the whole thing as the author has some interesting ideas on the subjects she covers--I only wish she'd made her focus more narrow and analysis more in-depth). The few chapters focusing there are great for pointing you toward other resources and giving you a very broad overview of the subject (as are most topics covered in this book as I said earlier). less

Fascinating topic, but dry. I got lost in the German romantics and had trouble resurfacing.
