review 1: I received this book as a Goodreads Giveaway.I was looking forward to reading what I thought would be a whimsical satire of the British upper class - particularly after I saw the characters being compared to Wodehouse's Bertie Wooster. Bertie may have been scatter-brained, but he was endearing. Windy & Chatty are amoral dolts. I couldn't find any characteristics in them (or any of the other characters) that would make me care about what happened to them. There was some clever writing, but that was outweighed by the unappealing characters and often crude dialog and situations. The book also could have used better proofreading to correct a number of typos and missing words.
review 2: I received this book in a goodreads first read competition. This book could... more have been great, a Monty Python type comedy of silliness and the ridiculous. At times it was great, funny and clever. The story of the football watch was classic top class English comedy but the book is let down by its over use of juvenile toilet humour. That type of humour does not bother me, I grew up watching shows like The Young Ones, but in the book it got to a stage where I would cringe when I know there was another joke about boldly functions or gentilia approaching because it became so obvious what was coming. Most six year olds know they can get away with fart jokes for so long before it gets annoying and sadly it got annoying in the book, so much so that it stops a good becoming a great one. It is a good book, for the most part I had fun reading it. I hope in the future to read more of the adventures of Windy and Chatty but with the crudeness, while not toned down, just used more sparingly. less
