Reading Updates

I am currently between books, but somehow this week my Booktube reading list started to look daunting and like a monster with fangs and claws. The good thing is, it forced me to finish a few books that I hadn’t finished, but that also left me in a bit of a book-hole.

This coincided with finishing The Vegetarian, which for a 200-page book packs a big punch and took me a few days to process fully. I think it may have given me a complex about little books actually containing big broad themes.

So I started like three books and none of them stuck after 20 pages, I ended up picking up The After Party by Anton DiSclafani and that seems to be sticking. What is it about a rich Texas neighborhood in the 1950s that I find so captivating? I don’t know. We’ll see if it sticks.

Also I am still reading Almost Famous Women by Megan Mayhew Bergman. It’s the first short story collection I’ve read, so I am still trying to find a way to get my thoughts synthesized, and a digital ARC of Yesterday by Felicia Yap, which is turning out to be much more interesting than I expected.

What Else Have I Been Up To

I started the week with getting my car serviced. That’s four hours in a car dealership, where I finished Emma in the Night by Wendy Walker and then came home to make Garlic-Lime Pork Chops.

I also went to the Book Barn on Saturday night. It’s a big used bookstore about an hour’s drive from me. They have a lot of used books for about $4 each. I picked up Louise O’Neill’s Asking For It, The Cement Garden by Ian McEwan, and Missy by Chris Hannan.

Around the Blogosphere

Melting Pots and Other Calamities wants you to ask them questions. One thing I discovered late on Thursday is that I can get really punchy at times, and that leads to some interesting questions. So, go ask!

Claire @ Art and Soul posted a recipe for Jammy Shortcake Biscuit Bites, which look delicious, and I bet the Eleventh Doctor would have loved them!

Alice @ Arctic Books wrote a tutorial on how to use Edelweiss+, which is useful to me since I haven’t really gotten into Edelweiss yet.

Cristina @ Girl in the Pages discussed “book pushing” this week. It’s a thing.

Balie @ Nerd in New York wrote a post about four unique tropes she wants to see more of. I am all for the healthy sibling relationship trope, and characters just need to have a personality, period!

Em @ Keystroke Blog asked a burning question: “What’s with all the green eyes in YA?” Of course the second I read this I started an audiobook where in the first chapter the narrator talks about her boyfriend’s green eyes.  Get the feeling I am going to be noticing this everywhere for a while.

So, that’s the week in a nutshell! What have you been up to this week? Let me know in the comments below!
