review 1: I was lucky enough to win this book in a giveaway...and what a lovely breath of fresh air it was! Most of the romances and rocker books I read are always very dark and filled with steamy sexuality and dirty talk...fun and definitely my cup of tea...but occasionally I like to switch it up and read something a tad more on the tamer side as long as it has a good story and is well written. Sophie's Turn is all that and more...a very sweet and very realistic, relatable story of one woman's discovery about love, life and not settling. As many young women have done, Sophie had a crush and fantasized about a boy band and when she gets to spend a magical night with them after a concert, she indulges in a little bit of flirty, harmless fun with the bad boy lead singer Dan and it is so... moremething she takes with her into adulthood. Fast forward 10 years and Sophie is now a reporter and engaged to the kind and sweet but rather stuffy Tim, and when she crosses paths with Dan and his bandmates, her chance to re-live the excitement (as an adult this time) comes back to cause all sorts of havoc and confusion into her life. Add to that a meddling and at times very annoying best friend Rachel and you have the recipe for some romantic escapades and near disasters that are both funny and emotionally draining to all (including the reader). I found myself really feeling sorry for Sophie more so than Dan or Tim and what she goes through and her ultimate decision is so relatable to me that I cheered her when she made her final choice and am SO looking forward to diving into the next book of the series. This book contains no explicit sex or vulgar language, merely discreet descriptions that leave more to the imagination but are filled with innuendo and foreplay. A warning though: DO NOT read this book hungry...OMG...the food descriptions and fine dining that takes place in various cities throughout made me hungry and filled with longing to travel just to eat my way through the countryside!***** 5 ***** "Sophie's choice was a good one" stars
review 2: I have to warn you- I read BOTH of these books (Sophie's Turn and Sophie's Run) in less than 3 hours! Once you finish the first book, you can't wait to start the second one, and then you can't wait to see what happens! So make sure you have a good block of time to give to the books, as you will NOT want to walk away from them! Also, they are ADULT romance Chick Lit, so there are very ADULT situations and escapades. Nothing too outlandish, just appropriate for the books!Nicky has a way of hooking you from the first sentence and dropping slam into Sophie's life and you will not want to leave! I definitely loved book 2 a little more, as I felt like we really got to see Sophie come into her own. Book 3 comes out in September). I am so thrilled that Nicky asked me to review her 2 books- now I have to go back and read the rest of her books! I love finding a new author to love! Check out this series and you'll love her to! less
