review 1: This is the most impersonal memoir I've ever read---boring as well. It was like an itinerary: I did this, this happened but I'm not going to give you any real memories, etc etc. Plus, he spends so much time patting himself on the back it's a wonder he can still play the bass. It was statements like this that really made me dislike this guy: "Is "RIO" the greatest album cover of the eighties? Discuss." "His Duran cover is a classic." There are more, trust me. And what's the significance of the title? No one died and as far as love goes, Taylor never spoke much. There wasn't a lot of introspection.Maybe I would have liked this better if I hadn't just read Billy Idol's "Dancing with Myself" which is pretty awesome. If you are going to write about your life as a ... morerock musician, then at least share enough of yourself to make it interesting. I give it 2 stars just because I was a Duran Duran fan in the past, but my inclination is for one.
review 2: I really enjoyed reading about his parents. I would love to know more about John's dad and his war story. I was a huge Duran fan. John was my pick. We grab these people and put them on a pedestal and make them what we need them to be. They helped me through some pretty rough times and little did I know he was in worse shape than the one I was hiding from. The only difference he was able to attend rehab and prayerfully stay away from those addictions and demons. I really do pray for him. Stardom can really eat you alive. Be careful what you wish for. ;) less

It's not great, but it's a quick, enjoyable read. Especially if you're a fan of Duran Duran.
