review 1: I think this is the most accurate historical romance I have read in terms of behaviour of the characters. Most of the books I've read so far seemed a little forced - especially when it comes to the heroine's knowledge and reaction to men.In this one, the heroine reacts naturally to her attraction and I enjoyed the fact that there are no maidenly vapors. Also, the grandmother added a realistic touch with her emphasis on the advantages of a marriage with the hero - without making them feel like she's a gold digger.Still, it only got 3 stars from me because somehow it didn't blow me away. Yes, it's an interesting plot with interesting characters - but I think the hero should have buckled up earlier. And I think I needed more intensity, I guess, between them - somehow the roma... morence was a little tepid. All in all, a nice book.
review 2: 3.5: For a book whose heroine is all about advanced arithmetic, the appeal in this story, for me, was all about the author's seductive use of language. Details described with lovely and intimate word choice brought out the romantic elements of the couples' story. Though the suspense element was too drawn out - I think most readers will guess where this part of the story is going long before the big reveal - the book's strength is in the well crafted setting, characters and that lovely use of language. less

Really enjoyed the byplay between these two characters. He's very pompous and she's usually right.

Such lovely writing! And I really enjoyed a non-traditional heroine. Much more interesting!

Figured out the big mystery way early in the book. Skipped to the end.
