review 1: This gal read a book a day for 365 days straight! She chose books about an inch thick with 250-300 pages. After three years of mourning the too early death of her older sister from cancer, this already avid reader and mother of four boys decided to change her pace and dedicate her days to reading in an effort to deal with her sorrow and find some new light in her life. Looking for solace...and some answers....she felt she needed a new way to think about life and the curve balls it throws. She also started a blog and determined that she would then give each read a serious and thoughtful review - the readallday.orgThis book is about her sister, her parents, family, her constant reading and what she learned - you will probably find yourself making a list from the books she ... morewrites about like I did. It was quite a feat and she ended up renewed in spirit from her immersion in books and the many stories she vicariously experienced. Quite interesting!
review 2: A memoir of grief and finding healing through reading. I thoroughly enjoyed Nina Sankovitch's recollections of what she learned about herself, her family, and life at large while spending a year reading a book a day. In several ways, it reminded me a lot of "Wild" by Cheryl Strayed - both women decided to set out on a drastic challenge after experiencing the loss of a close family member. For Cheryl, it was hiking the Pacific Crest Trail. For Nina, it was reading a book a day for a year. Though they chose incredibly different paths to take (so to speak), both women embarked on a journey of self-discovery and reflection and came out the stronger for it.If you have a deep love for the written word and think memoir may be up your alley, I think you'll appreciate "Tolstoy and the Purple Chair." I certainly did. less

Interesting, but somehow too much for me.
