review 1: I hesitated giving this debut memoir only two stars...but it's a fair average; there are cameo pockets of four-star noteworthy reading, along with zero-star mundane, slug-through-it reading. But the biggest problem with this memoir, isn't Oksana's life story, which on the whole is very interesting and enlightening, concerning Gypsy heritage and immigration to America. No, it's the editing assemblage, the hodgepodge randomness without fluidity in the retelling of personal memories and memorable family related events.

... mores very interesting. They have a very rich culture. She tells a good story and is a likable heroine. My issue with the book was the unrelenting dysfunction, fighting, drinking and violence. If she wrote the book in hopes of improving the image of gypsies, she did not succeed. But it was a worthwhile book overall. less
