review 1: I think the good thing about this book is how the author basically "spoke" to and for all women who get married, have kids and then lose themselves to the every day tedium of babies, bottles and stuffing your face with either food or booze to feel better about your miserable life.I could relate to so many things, from the extra weight that sticks after you binge out of loneliness, to the lack of self-esteem and when anyone shows a little bit of interest in a woman when her own husband basically ignores her, that is a recipe for disaster and broken hearts.This book was a cautionary tale for women everywhere who stay in unhappy marriages and do nothing to either get out of them or fix what's not working.I'm not sure I agreed with everything in this book and I wish the charac... moreters were more likeable so I would have felt more empathy, but overall it was a good read (more serious and less fluffy than most romances) and had a realistic message and hopeful outcome.**** 4 **** "sometimes this IS all there is" stars
review 2: So this is women's lit.This is a well written story with credible characters and natural dialogue. Some aspects are familiar types--a solid citizen of a husband, a perfect "younger man" and a married, lactating woman's lustful imagination and wandering ways; the battle between what one knows and what one feels.I don't think I have ever seen grassy green eyes and think that therapy of any sort require weeks, months or years rather than one session. But though there was not a "lesson" in this novel and the lives of its characters do not really compel or entice, this novel confirms for this reviewer that men tend to respond by thinking of solutions and women prefer one simply to listen and empathize.It seems enough to make the world go round. less
