review 1: Not sure, but I think this is a companion book to Thank You Mr. Falker, following the school experiences of Patricia Polacco. Diagnosed with learning disabilities when she had trouble learning to read, Trisha is a stellar artist and is lucky enough to be recognized for her talent. She is allowed to take art classes in the local high school, and she absorbs the lessons that Miss Chew, her art teacher, has to offer. When a substitute teacher threatens to discontinue her participation in the program, other administrators pull together to make sure this doesn't happen. Another example from Patricia Polacco's childhood which demonstrates that anyone can succeed by facing one's challenges.
review 2: I discovered this book in The Tattered Cover in Denver. I've read an
... mored liked other stories about Patricia Polacco's difficult childhood and the teachers who inspired her, and this story is equally moving. Even if the art teacher could not get Patricia's name right, she set her on the path for a long and fulfilling career. Well worth reading along with Polacco's The Junkyard Wonders and Thank You, Mr. Falkner. less
