review 1: 3.5 out of 5 stars.Ablutions is an interesting, experimental exercise in writing. Although the second person narrative was distracting and initially alienating to me as a reader, deWitt's talent succeeds in holding it together. It's seedy and depressing, yet darkly humourous. In the end, I felt like I was swirling at the bottom of a vodka bottle and although I'm not sure this is where I wanted to be for 150+ pages, the dirty mood and feel deWitt creates is unique, consistent and very, very effective.

This book is well written but depressing. No character has any redeeming qualities.

Well, I liked it. How's that for a critical comment? The man can fashion prose.
