review 1: Van had been sent to jail because he was a lookout when the bank was robbed, where Tessa's dad had been killed. The judge wanted everyone to think her dad had been in on the robbery. She and her mom had a rough time keeping their home and for the first few years they did, but finally the judge bought it from them. The mom had died and Tessa was living in the back of an abandoned building.Van was sentenced to jail for years but no one could decide why that long.He gets out of jail and comes back to his hometown with boots to sell. He had some packed away to set up his shop. He bought that abandoned building the judge owned, hired Tessa to work for him.He wanted to take care of her since he felt guilty about her dad dying.Van is reunited with his dad and mom, but learns... more he has a younger sister.Everyone is happy.
review 2: This is offered as a free read for the holiday season and I truly enjoyed it. It's a Western historical romance about a man who participates in a crime when he was 15 and is given an unfair sentence of 10 years. He serves his time, then returns to prove he has matured and made something of himself. It ends of turning into a sweet romance and a mystery with action and suspense. Anyone who is a fan of Westerns and/or historical romances should give this engaging novella a read. less
