review 1: A good read for history buffs like myself - or anyone, for that matter. It is told in two perspectives: Rosie, a holocaust survivor, and her nephew Paul, the man who unearths his family's titular "Holocaust Secret". Rosie's account is touching and chilling without being unbearably dark. She deals with unspeakable horrors, yet never loses her upbeat, hopeful spirit. Paul's narrative offers an interesting, little-known perspective of the descendants of Holocaust-era Jews that is well-worth reading, though not nearly as captivating as Rosie's story. This book offers a unique perspective of World War 2 and the everyday people involved, and I highly recommend it.
review 2: Paul Glaser was born in the Netherlands and raised in a devout Catholic family. When he a
... moresked his father what happened to his grandparents, his father told him they died of old age. However, when he was an adult he found out his father was Jewish, and went into hiding during World War II. While his father managed to hide, Paul's grandparents and Aunt Rosie were sent to a concentration camp. He found his aunt's wartime diaries and letters and wrote the story of her life shortly before, during and after World War II, the horrors she endured, and her struggle to survive. less

A real treasure! Family pictures and insights into a very strong woman during a very evil time!

Not a particularly likeable woman, though I feel badly that I thought so.
