Jack Reacher: Never Go Back Movie Review

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a movie so completely average. Not good, not terrible. Just exists. Kind of like this blog.

Jack Reacher Never Go Back is the sequel to the underrated Jack Reacher. This time Reacher must work to unravel a conspiracy and save a fellow solider from being framed. Or something like that. It’s kind of hard to follow to be honest.

Like I said, the movie is just fine. It is a step down from the first film for sure. But some of the good things from that movie are also in this one. Tom Cruise is solid as the character, although he isn’t asked to do a whole lot in this one. There are some good action scenes. The fights are well choreographed and the car chases are entertaining. You can have fun watching this movie, even with all the negative aspects.

Let’s talk about those for a second. The story doesn’t really make a lick of sense. I was confused for most of the movie. Part of the problem is there is very little lead-up. The movie just kicks right into gear. It also doesn’t mention the first movie at all and the only returning character is Reacher. They might as well not be related in any way. One of the things that made that one so good is noticeably lacking in this one. That is the subtle humor and sarcasm that added comic relief to an otherwise fairly dull movie. This one has a little of it but not enough. Therefore it is- you guessed it- fairly dull.

There’s no point analyzing the movie much more. It’s good way to kill a couple hours but that’s about it. I don’t think anyone will be heartbroken if they “never go back” to this series. Yes, I know that’s an awful joke. Jack Reacher Never Go Back gets a 2.5/5.
