review 1: Interesting ... but I wouldn't say thrilling. Paula Butturini married John Tagliabue (famous NYTimes reporter) in mid life. She had just received a terrible beating while covering the Prague revolution; they were married for 3 weeks when he was shot by a sniper while covering the Romanian revolution. It was a very major injury and trigged a deep depression. They solved it all through time / patience / and very good Italiann food living in Italy. It's a quick read. A good lesson that one can travel through the really tough times.
review 2: This book was very well written and well laid out. It was a tough subject to read about, but the final message was one of hope, love, and family. The author's honesty and her willingness to be so open made me feel lik
... moree she'd given me a beautiful gift. It was also fun to read about the places of her childhood, as they overlap with places from my mother's childhood and mine. Highly recommended, especially to other people who love food. less

More about dealing with depression than about their marriage like I expected it to be. Enjoyable.

Loved the parts about food and cooking but the part of the story about depression were a bit long.

Good book about depression and hardship and the role food can play in keeping the beasts at bay.
