♥Quick overview about the Wallflowers♥

Set in London 1843, four girls, who usually found themselves sitting together season after season watching other girls dance and get courted, finally get to an agreement that they would help each other win a husband starting from the eldest to the youngest. From wallflowers to fiery husband hunters, these girls will blow your mind.

It’s Lillian Bowman’s turn. The fiercest of them all wallflowers. An American who was brought by her parents in London to catch an English husband to ensure a position in the upper class society. But she learned early that Londoners don’t approve of her american independent ways.

And the most disapproving of all is Marcus, Lord Westcliff. From the very strat he just knew, Lillian’s kind isn’t suited for him, being one of London’s most eligible and respected aristocrats. But seeing her again is inevitable as he invited her family to her home state for a month-long social gathering. If only her father isn’t his prospect business associate.

Personally, I don’t know how to best describe Lillian and Marcus as characters but I got this portion of a conversation between Marcus and his sister Livia that might help.

Marcus responded with a derisive half smile. “Hardly. One look at her, and any man in his right mind would run screaming in the opposite direction.”                                                  Beginning to feel that her brother was being rather too harsh on Lillian Bowman, Livia frowned. “She’s a very pretty girl, Marcus.”
“A pretty facade isn’t enough to make up for the flaws in her character.”
“Which are?”
Marcus made a faint scoffing sound, as if Miss Bowman’s faults were too obvious to require enumeration. “She’s manipulative.”
“So are you, dear,” Livia murmured.
He ignored that. “She’s domineering.”
“As are you.”
“She’s arrogant.”
“Also you,” Livia said brightly.
Marcus glowered at her. “I thought we were discussing Miss Bowman’s faults, not mine.”
“But you seem to have so much in common,”

I must assure you that Lillian pretty much feel the same way towards Marcus. Needless to say, this love story is so much fun with both of the MCs are denial and clueless of what they actually feel and why they’re feeling it. It took so long for them to finally agree with each other, oh wait, they still disagree with so many things until the end. But they’re lovable anyway. They’re not that kind of MCs that you wanna smack just because they keep on pushing each other away. Nope, not at all.

Look at this part of their conversation I liked so much. Marcus was apologising:

Westcliff spoke gruffly. “Miss Bowman, I must apologize for what happened earlier today. I am at a loss to explain my behavior, other than to state that it was a moment of insanity that will never be repeated.”
Lillian stiffened a little at the word “insanity.” “Fine,” she said. “I accept your apology.”
“You may set your mind at ease with the knowledge that I do not find you desirable in anyway whatsoever.”
“I understand. Enough said, my lord.”
“If the two of us were left alone on a deserted island, I would have absolutely no thought of approaching you.”
“I realize that,” she said shortly. “You don’t have to go on and on about it.”
“I just want to make it clear that what I did was a complete aberration. You are not the kind of woman whom I would ever be attracted to.”
“All right.”
“In fact—”
“You’ve made yourself quite clear, my lord,” Lillian interrupted with a scowl, thinking that it was undoubtedly the most annoying apology she had ever received. “However…as my father always says, an honest apology comes with a price.”
Westcliff shot her an alert glance. “Price?”
The air between them crackled with challenge. “Yes, my lord. It’s no trouble for you to mouth a few words and then be done with it, is it? But if you were truly sorry for what you did, you would try to make amends.”
“All I did was kiss you,” he protested, as if she were making far too much of the incident.
“Against my will,” Lillian said significantly. She adopted an expression of wounded dignity. “Perhaps there are some women who would welcome your romantic attentions, but I am not one of them. And I am not accustomed to being grabbed and forcefully subjected to kisses that I didn’t ask for—”
“You participated,” Westcliff retorted, wearing a Hades-like grimace.
“I did not!”

Hahaha!!! I was laughing so hard at this part. Seriously, having read the whole series before I must say that Marcus is the most mature among all the lead men but he was so cute in his own story. And Lillian, is really the bravest and the most brilliant being the one who thought of the idea of helping the wallflowers join forces to catch husbands. But in her own love story she’s a bit foolish but not in an annoying way.

Another thing I liked in Lillian and Marcus’ story is the Lillian’s peculiar talent with scents which led her to create this particular blend of perfume. A perfume which may or may not attract love interests. Hahaha!!! I’m still laughing, it’s ridiculous.

Also there’s this little plot twist at the end that involves my all-time Historical Romance hero named St. Vincent. *ehem , ehem.*

Okay, I just realized why I haven’t written any review for any of Historical Romances I read last years. And there were always fifty of them. I find it hard to make a review of this genre because they’re pretty much the same. Almost same plots but I love reading them anyway. I enjoy them a lot.

Till next book guys…

Happy Reading.
