review 1: Pretty good biography of Bruce. I liked reading about the early years of Bruce's career. Being a Midwestern girl, I didn't get introduced to him until the "Born to Run" album that came out my senior year of high school and even then there were only a handful of people I knew that listened to his music. I got a bit teary eyed reading about the deaths of his good friends Danny Federici and Clarence Clemmons and Bruce's reactions.
review 2: I am a huge Springsteen fan. I have raised my kids to be as well. One of my great memories is taking my oldest son to his first Springsteen concert. That said biographies of contemporary figures rarely end up being do e well. For one such as Springsteen, who has so dominated pop culture in his time and place the need for a ... morebiography is limited. For those of us who are great fans is there really that much to know. Surprisingly I did learn some things I did not know. Not surprisingly, actually as is common in books like these, the beginning chapters those that tell of Bruce's life growing up and in the early days of his music career are the most interesting and enlightening. Other reviewers seemed to have a problem with the author's writing. I think that is overblown. This is a rock biography. It is not Shakespeare, nor is it the work of a noted biographer. It is the acceptable work of a rock journalist. The writing is passable and I am sure for some this would be a great find. For me it suffers the same fate as ninety fiver percent of entertainment bios, most copies will end up in bargain bins or yard sales. less
