review 1: The Art Detective was interesting to me because I like to paint (and sell my paintings). But also because I like to go to garage sales and think that one day I will find some semi-great work of art hidden among the goods. I enjoyed reading about the love of the history and the in depth work so many people go to in order to restore paintings - for money - but also because they love the paintings and the love of history. This book makes me want to buy more paintings!
review 2: A quick read. Philip mould is an art dealer and expert from Antiques Roadshow on the BBC. His writing style is really pompous, his voice is my head was arrogant and condescending. I would not like to be described in one of his books, "her middleaged blandness masked an inquiring mind and
... more prurient interest in art history." The story of a Norman Rockwell painting was particularly interesting. One of a Winslow Homer watercolor fell flat. less

Style pedantic, but stories + art restoration details interest.
