review 1: Nothing wrong with chicklit, which is what the cover promises - but this is a bit more meaty than yer usual 'will she, won't she, oh Lord he's so DREAMY' mush. Polly James is a round character with a brain and a nice line in observation as things fall apart around her. Her unusual job is the perfect vehicle to introduce a steady stream of antagonists, and the 'political' elements help to bring everything into three dimensions. (If you're put off by the 'political' elements, you should probably avoid 'Fawlty Towers', as it's packed full of stuff that would only really appeal to hotel management geeks). The main impression is that the author's got a distinct voice; will be interesting to see what she writes next.
review 2: I won a copy of this book through the Go... moreodreads 'First Reads'. I want to say thank you to Goodreads First Reads because I was one of the winners of this book giveaway. The book is written as a diary. The owner of the diary is Molly a middle age woman. She is married with two children. Her marriage starts to experience problems and she doesn't know how to respond to the changes.I think she reflects the perfect image of most middle age women and the worries women have when they reach certain age. I found the heroine very negative and she always thought the worse about everything. I hope when I reach this age I will not look towards life so negatively. I couldn't feel any deep emotions between the characters and the author has started many leads without finishing them. The political stuff in the book were unnecessary in my opinion. The ending of the book was not finish because I didn't know what really happen with her diary and if she has told her husband about the affair.There were few funny moments which made me give the book 3 stars. less
