review 1: Well, Rachel Maddow is certainly one of my current media heroes - SOOOO and witty and RIGHT ON!! So, I was shocked to find that she is also SUPER SMART, thoughtful, philosophical, and, yes, RIGHT ON! This book should be REQUIRED READING in high schools everywhere. Where are we going with our military power. Who's in charge? Do we REALLY need this crazy military might (5 to 10 times the combined military expenditures of the next five largest countries)? Yes, this book will drive you crazy and maybe even make you despair, but it's IMPORTANT. It's not long. It's not hard. READ IT.
review 2: This was an excellent look at how our military and our government got to the dysfunctional place that it is today. The timeline meandered a little bit, which is what d... moreropped it from 5 stars to 4. But, overall, I thought it was an excellent, highly readable treatise on how our government has lost its way in regards to our military, clearly demonstrating how we've shifted to a different and risky road. I listened to this in audiobook form, and Rachel Maddow does an excellent job reading her work. Seldom do authors do a good job reading their own work, in my experience, but her fantastic delivery really shines here. less
