review 1: This true story of a strong, devoted Catholic nanny who adopted her Jewish charge and loved and cared for him as her own was definitely a page turner. Also the German SS officer who protected Jews whenever he could was also quite touching. I have read much about the Halocaust and still can't fathom the horrors and ruthless treatment of the Jews. This book will leave a lasting impression as the characters are not fictional and Michael Stolowitzky is alive today and will attend a local book discussion I will attend next month.
review 2: This book was gripping immediately and I could not put it down. I read it in two days which is not something I normally say.It is inspiring that the nanny would go to such lengths to protect this little boy. But not so, actually.
... moreShe comes to love him and promises his mother she will care for him. She puts her life aside to take care of him through he war and beyond. The concurrent story of an SS officer is fascinating and so interesting how it intersects with this little family. I lived this book. less
