review 1: 2 1/2 stars.I really liked the beginning of this story. I'm a sucker for home coming stories. But, once the two lovers were reunited and did the deed, the story lost all of it's tension. There were plot points that should have added tension like: sexual assault, murder, post war PTSD, etc but these elements felt flat and one dimensional. The love story itself was very sweet and I loved the relationship between Clementine and Donovan.
review 2: This book was sweet and satifying if you are looking for a standalone book with a HEA. It starts in a strange place as we know stuff happened 7 years ago, but we don't know what exactly. Clementine has been in college and working as an intern in New York and is coming back to her hometown for the 1st time in that 7 year
... mores in order to find a job in DC. She finds out that her boyfriend from 7 years ago, Donovan, bought her grandmothers house and she ends up staying with him due to some flooding. Things start coming out about what happened 7 years ago and you start to see how things around them tore them apart. She was basically forced to leave for college to protect him. Without her, he left for the Marines. They didn't have a way to get in contact, but that didn't stop them from wanting to be together. Now that they are together again, the same issues fromt he path are threatening to tear them apart again. ARC copy provided by Netgalley for an honest review less
