3 “Reel” Atlanta locations from “The Walking Dead”

Visiting the filming locations of my favorite feature films and television shows is always number one on my travel list. I enjoy scouting out the original locations because it heightens the magic of the movies and also reminds me of the process.

Here are 3 locations around the Atlanta area for all of my fellow movie-lovers to geek out about.

1. Rick Grimes’ House -“The Walking Dead” Season 1, Episode 1

Because this is a private residence, I won’t share the address. It is very searchable online, but I’ve chosen to not include the address in my post.

Fans are often walking around in front of the house in hopes of capturing a photo. The house is across the street from a public park, so the neighborhood is bustling with locals. After taking my photo in front of the house, two other fans took a snapshot of the house. Credit: Ashley Steinbach

2.  The CDC – “The Walking Dead” – Season 1, Episode 5 & 6

The Center for Disease Control, abbreviated as CDC, is a building within Atlanta, Georgia that the survivors attempt to reach in Episode 5 of Season 1, “Wildfire“, in a desperate attempt to obtain assistance and aid from the government. – The Walking Dead Wiki

Real life location:
Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre
2800 Cobb Galleria Parkway Cumberland, Georgia United States

The CDC is actually a performing arts center in the Atlanta area. Because this is a public location, finding it is actually quite simple.

3.  The Quarry – The Walking Dead, Season 1, Episode

Real Life Location: Westside Reservoir Park Johnson Rd NW Atlanta, GA 30318

This park is not open to the public yet, it is still under construction and will hopefully be open soon. I was really looking forward to visiting this location, but it was just bad timing. When the park is complete and safe, I will definitely be returning.

Fun Facts: The Quarry featured in “The Walking Dead” was actually featured in Netflix’s, “Stranger Things,” “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1,” and “The Fundamentals of Caring.”

Thanks for reading my short list of filming locations. “The Walking Dead” has countless more locations to scout out and visit, but this list serves as a beginners plan to the first season of the AMC show.

Have you been keeping up with “The Walking Dead?” What location from the series would you love to see for yourself?
