As Close As Sisters

Sometimes life calls for a feel-good friendship book, and this fits the bill. Colleen Faulkner’s book hits you in all the feels, in the best way.

McKenzie has been friends with Aurora, Lilly, and Janine since she was twelve. Every year, the foursome meets at Janine’s family home on the beach. They reminisce about old times, catch up on life’s current events, and get to enjoy each other’s company. This year, however, is a bit different.

As much as no one wants to admit it, this is going to be McKenzie’s last year at the house. She has stage four cancer, and she’s taking this summer as a chance to say goodbye to her favorite people.

McKenzie doesn’t want her friends to linger on the news, and thankfully she isn’t the only one with something big going on. Lilly is pregnant, something she never thought she would be at forty-two. Aurora is a world renowned artist, and she just got back from Rome. Janine is dating someone new, and although she’s secretive about it, her friends know that means it’s serious.

The women each have secrets, some that they share as a group, and some that are yet to be spilled. But if this is their last time together, they’re determined to make the most of it.

If you’ve ever read/seen Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood, this book has that kind of vibe. Four women who have been together forever, seen each other through darkness, and celebrated happy times. It makes you want to hug your best friend and settle in for a good conversation.
