Between Sisters

AUTHOR: CATHY KELLY • CATEGORY: CHICK LIT • PAGES: 425 OVERVIEW

Coco and Cassie have been inseparable since their mother abandoned them as children.

Cassie is foremost a responsible person looking after her husband and children, but it seems like she is missing the mark. While Coco owns a vintage dress shop and is daunted by the idea of being a spinster forever after a heartbreaking end to her last relationship.

Both sisters have a void where something is missing. Will a sudden appearance from their past help heal, or hinder them…

MY REVIEW

Apart from my children and husband, my sister is my favourite person in the world. She is the person I can always rely on for support no matter what. When I picked this book to read I had her in mind, hoping Cathy Kelly could accurately portray the strength of such a sisterly bond. Thankfully Cathy Kelly did not disappoint.

Cassie and Coco have such a strong bond as adult sisters. Do they tell each other everything? No. But, do they share the important stuff eventually? Yes. They both have struggles and secrets making them so realistic. One of the main traits that I think signifies their bond is their willingness to pick up the phone when the other one calls, no matter what. Something they wouldn’t do for anyone else. This rings true to me (pun intended).

Cassie and Coco clearly have been effected by their mothers departure but in different ways. Cassie struggling with a forming addiction and Coco with her commitment issues. The way that Cathy Kelly works them through these issues is both captivating and satisfying.

The secondary characters storylines were quite interesting in themselves and blended into the plot with ease. When Phoebe’s character was first introduced I did think “What the feck?” but it soon became clear how she fitted into the story.

A lovely read that does touch on some quite heavy topics, but all the while remaining uplifting.

Overall Rating: 4/5 teacups
