For the millions who log in every day, Warcross isn’t just a game—it’s a way of life. The obsession started ten years ago and its fan base now spans the globe, some eager to escape from reality and others hoping to make a profit. Struggling to make ends meet, teenage hacker Emika Chen works as a bounty hunter, tracking down players who bet on the game illegally. But the bounty hunting world is a competitive one, and survival has not been easy. Needing to make some quick cash, Emika takes a risk and hacks into the opening game of the international Warcross Championships—only to accidentally glitch herself into the action and become an overnight sensation.

Convinced she’s going to be arrested, Emika is shocked when instead she gets a call from the game’s creator, the elusive young billionaire Hideo Tanaka, with an irresistible offer. He needs a spy on the inside of this year’s tournament in order to uncover a security problem . . . and he wants Emika for the job. With no time to lose, Emika’s whisked off to Tokyo and thrust into a world of fame and fortune that she’s only dreamed of. But soon her investigation uncovers a sinister plot, with major consequences for the entire Warcross empire. Goodreads

Warning! Reading this after reading Ready Player One is not good for your reading health. Some readers shows a mild book-hangover symptoms. Be warned. Happy 2018! It is my first read and a good start. I read it only for a day until my eyes were all watery pleading my brain to stop but I couldn’t. I was so into the world. Deeply that I couldn’t stop. It is so easy to dive in the world and Tokyo, Japan as the main setting. I don’t ever want to leave.  The world of Warcross is so cool that I wish some thirteen year old boy would invent the neurolink. It’s not too late to start. The characters are so cool. I heard a lot of things about Hideo Tanaka and how gorgeous he is but I never thought it is possible to be in love at first word read in any book. I could feel Emika’s struggles in the first chapters, she was so desperate and surviving without anything. Her hair and sleeve tattoos are so cool too! The supporting characters did their best, helping Emika to grow as a person and as a player. I was also surprise on how they really care about each other not just as a team but as a family. Marie Lu is one of my favorite authors and this book didn’t disappoint me. Warcross is a bad-ass, action packed and blowing plot twist(s) that you will surely love. I couldn’t wait for the next book!
