It’s been a really busy summer, and according to Goodreads I’m three books behind schedule if I’m going to finish fifty books by the end of the year!
One reason I’m behind is because my mom started having medical problems and since I’m the only sibling living anywhere near her, I spent a lot of time shuttling her to doctor appointments. The other reason is that I scheduled a book signing at Between the Covers bookstore in Holland, MI to celebrate the release of my most recent novella, The Road to Escape. Several of my local friends came, and my daughter did a fabulous job setting things up, so I’d say the day was a great success – and the bookstore kept several of my books for their Local Author shelf!

Never Too Late by Robyn Carr
Robyn Carr never fails to present a unique and fascinating cast of characters, each person playing an important part in a circle of friends and family. In this wonderful story, the focus is on three sisters: an attorney, a teacher, and an artist. Though most of the attention is on the middle sister, Clare, and her struggles to find herself after coming to terms with (and throwing out) her philandering husband, I especially enjoyed reading about the other two sisters, who suffer their share of problems. Maggie is a successful attorney with what seems to be the perfect marriage, and Sarah is a bohemian artist who tries to blend in.
Eagle Eye by Darcy Flynn
I met Darcy through the Authors Helping Authors Yahoo group, and since she and I both write sweet romance, we’ve read each others’ books. Eagle Eye is Darcy’s most recent release, and I jumped at a chance to read, review, and promote it. While I posted information about the book, I didn’t get a chance to read it until this month. I was in for quite a surprise! Unlike her lighter romances set in idyllic settings, this one is set in the cutthroat New York fashion scene, and the main characters go into some shady areas of the city. But this story packs as much of a punch as all Darcy’s other books. I had a hard time putting this book down.
Heiress Seeking Perfect Husband by Maris Soule
Maris is a member of my local chapter of Romance Writers of America (RWA), and I’ve read several of her romances. I enjoyed this story about a child-bride who married a millionaire and was widowed soon after. Her fairy-tale life is kept intact partially through the efforts of her chauffeur, Clint Dawson, who does much more than drive his employer around. Shannon is getting bored with the life she’s expected to lead, and wants to start making her own way, but Clint is determined to protect her from anything that will harm her – including himself.
