Would you be able to recognize if someone took over your soulmate’s body?

What is it about?
From a Distant Star by Karen McQuestion is about a girl named Emma who fell in love with her soulmate Lucas. Everything was going great until Lucas got cancer and ended up in a coma. She spends everyday at his house watching over his body, which is getting on the nerves of his mother. Everything changes when Scout crash lands on Earth. He has to find a body to possess and the first one he finds it Lucas. Scout pretends to be Lucas while he and Emma try to find a way to get him home. But that won’t be as easy as it seems.

What did I think?
So this is one of those books that I will probably never considered reading again. Reading the summary on Goodreads it sounded like it would be a really good story. Which was mostly true. The story line was good, an alien takes over her boyfriends body and she doesn’t believe it until half way through the book. I personally don’t like the book because of Emma’s character. She’s annoying and whines about everything. She only cares about Lucas and doesn’t understand that her being at his house all the time is taking away from his family. There also isn’t much setting building happening, you know it takes place on a farm but that’s about it.

While I did find many negatives with this book there are of course also positives. Scout is a hilarious character. He doesn’t exactly know the English language because of being an alien, but he learns from movies. He’ll speak in movie quotes, which works sometimes and other times it comes out sounding strange. He cares about Emma and their friendship is down right cheesy.

This story had a so much potential but I think it just fell as little short. If there was more character development for Emma and more world building it would’ve been better in my opinion. It felt like it was lacking to me, that I wasn’t enticed to continue reading because I just wasn’t connected to the characters.

If you don’t mind cheesy friendships and annoying characters then you may like this book.
