Let’s Play ‘Dream Daddy’

German version of this post is the Let’s Play video you can find right here:

I recently heard of the game ‘Dream Daddy – a dad dating simulator’ (Yes, this is a real thing!) and I instantly knew that I had to try it out. This game was a big hit and topped the Steam download charts (link for download is below).

Who is your Daddy?

I think it’s so cool that a niche game like this celebrates mainstream success with lots of people enjoying LGBT+ content. A lot of great LGBT movies and TV series have been popular only with the LGBT community. I think it’s a major breakthrough that a game like this became so popular.

Let’s see what the makers of the game say about it first…

Dream Daddy: A Dad Dating Simulator is a game where you play as a Dad and your goal is to meet and romance other hot Dads. You and your daughter have just moved into the sleepy seaside town of Maple Bay only to discover that everyone in your neighborhood is a single, dateable Dad! Will you go out with Teacher Dad? Goth Dad? Bad Dad? Or any of the other cool Dads in this game? With minigames, sidequests, and a variety of paths and endings, Dream Daddy: A Dad Dating Simulator is this year’s most anticipated Dad-based game.

First of all, this summary of the game is hilarious… ‘this years most anticipated Dad-based game’ made me laugh. I guess there’s not a lot of games fighting for that title.
For the biggest part of the game, you get to know other people, mostly other dads, talk to your daughter, play mini-games and try to get dates or fall in love. If you score at a date with one of your desired dad’s, you might even end up in bed with them (screen fades to black when that’s the case).

What I like about the game are the endless puns and fun conversations and that you get to choose which dad you want to see more of. It’s also interesting that you can’t control every aspect of the game. No matter what you do or say, it’s not that easy to get in the pants of some of the dads.

Saying exactly what somebody wants to hear until they kiss you is what a sociopath does.

However, I see some problems with the game. The beginning of the game – which is what I am showing in the Let’s play video above – is a little long-winded. You will have endless conversations if you want to get to know all the seven Dads, not all of them are entertaining enough to keep me playing for a long time. As this game has no real ‘goal’ it won’t be fun for anyone who wants to ‘finish’ a game. I do appreciate what this game is trying to do and I love all the jokes about Daddy culture while staying very inclusive, but all in all I feel like this game could be a little more focused. At least to me, the conversations with static graphics are not enough to keep me entertained for hours straight.

What do you think? You want to try this game after seeing me play it?
