A full body massage can be expensive, but a full body massage from a chair is not. Or at least not at the Mr. Healing massage chair café. For 13,000 won per person you can have a 50-minute massage and a coffee/drink of your choice. It’s 26,000 won for a couple. After your massage is finished you get your drink and can rest in the café area.
You cannot get up during the massage, so the workers there suggest that all customers use the restroom before starting the massage. After that is taken care of, a worker will lead you to your massage chair. You must take off your shoes, and put on a protective cover over your feet. There is a hanger for your coat, and a place to put your shoes. Once you sit in the chair, the worker will ask what setting you want. There are six different settings to choose from. Once all this is taken care of you just sit back and enjoy. There are also blankets available if you feel cold.
My boyfriend described the settings as follows:
- Setting 1 is average, non-gravity, whole body
- Sadly the picture I took of the settings is too blurry, and my boyfriend was not able to figure out what setting 2 and 3 are.
- Setting 4 is like a drum, like it will hit many times very weakly
- Setting 5 focuses on the upper body.I carry a lot of tension in my shoulders so my boyfriend chose setting 5 for me—
- Setting 6 focuses on the lower body, like the hip bones. (My boyfriend chose this setting and was pretty happy with it).
I was really satisfied with my massage. I’ve been super stressed out lately, and the massage was really nice and helped relieve a good amount of tension from my body. The room was pretty quiet, and a bit of soft music played in the background. There was a pleasant picture too look at; though I mostly looked at the oxygen machine thing or the ceiling or closed my eyes. The whole experience was really relaxing and peaceful, and I even almost fell asleep.
All things considered it was a pretty sweet deal, and it made for a nice, relaxing date. It was actually my boyfriend who suggested that we get a couples’ massage at this café. He’s been hinting about getting a massage together for some time, but I usually shrug it off because I never have the money for it. But after he found out about the Mr. Healing café and how affordable it was he was insistent that we go. And I’m glad that he was, because I had such a nice time. I should say, of course, a real masseur/masseuse would do a better job than a machine. A person can see what areas need more work and focus on them. But I think massage chairs/massage chair cafes provide a pretty decent affordable alternative for those of us who can’t afford a masseur/masseuse.
Mr. Healing is a franchise and they have locations all over Korea it seems. So, if you want to go to Mr. Healing just type in your city or select your province to find a café near you. I went to the Chuncheon café, but there are plenty more out there.
