With Halloween approaching and our current political/social/environmental climate being so terrible I’d say there’s no time like the present to kick back and relax and watch some Caucasian people do things they have no business doing in horror films because no one brings the scary like some thrill seeking Caucasians.
There was once a time where horror films scared the living shit out of me and resulted in me not being able to sleep in my own room for days/weeks at a time but now I find the humor in them and find myself partaking in the cliche act of yelling at the idiot characters and their lack of common sense while on my screen. So with the 31st approaching here’s some of my favorite horror films that I recommend
The Skeleton Key (2005)2. Trick ‘R Treat Great horror film to watch if you’re looking for a bit of a scare with a side of some laughs. It’s basically a handful of different Halloween tales/happenings in one town that sort of relate to each other in the end. I personally enjoy watching it whenever I can and if you haven’t then you should to. movie link
Dawn of The Dead (2004)3. In my opinion this movie was the rebirth of the zombie film into the 21st century. Very grotesque detailed looking zombies, and an interesting and well thought out story-line to help you digest all the blood and cannibalism with a side of characters that you can’t help but to relate to in one way or another. If you haven’t seen it I won’t spoil it for you, but just know that as far as zombie films go this one will keep you on your toes from the first zombie appearance down to the ending credits, possibly even after that… when I first saw it as a kid, I will admit it scared me shitless but it definitely put me onto zombies and now I love all zombie related films/shows. movie link
4. speaking of zombie films, this one right here (Zombieland) is one of my favorites. It’s more character development and comedy than it is a horror but it features some pretty detailed looking zombies that would could scare any common man/woman if they had seen them in person. This film brought a more youthful approach to the zombie apocalypse narrative that is commonly known to be dealt with by the middle aged and older crowd in films. So basically you get some zombies, some laughs, lot of killing, and a little bit of romance/bromance here and there. movie link
5.Annabelle (2014)/ Anabelle 2 (2017) I don’t know about you all but I personally haven’t seen a doll scare me this much since Good ol’ chucky the slasher found his way onto my screen as a kid. What scares me even more about this doll/film is that the horrible tale is based on a what? You guessed it.. true story. So once you put that into play while watching them it makes it that much better… or that much scarier. I’d suggest, if you are going to watch these two films, to do so during the daylight if you’re easily scared, but if not and you’re a thrill seeker go pitch black and enjoy. movie link(A1) & Movie link (A2)
6. I personally think this movie (Freddy Vs Jason) is a classic Simply because it was the first time (I’ve) ever seen two infamous killing monsters in one movie. Sort of like the batman vs superman of horror films. We all wanted it but never thought it would actually happen. So when it did come out I had to see it even though I knew I wouldn’t be able to fathom all that monster power in one film. With Kelly Rowland being the beautiful token black character in it with a lot of sass I would say this is a great horror film to watch. Even if you’re not familiar with the Freddy saga or the Jason saga. Watch it and thank me later. movie link
7. Last but definitely not least, Le Cabin In Le woods. kind of like Evil dead meets Resident Evil meets whatever other horror film you can think of seeing as how it has a little bit of everything in it. Another youthful approach to the wonderful horror genre with a side of laughs and a quality amount of death. So enjoy. movie link
Enjoy
