review 1: This would do for slightly older preschoolers, the ones who can look at the pictures and see that there is another story going on there. Otherwise the humor of the book is going to escape the kids. The pictures are fine, perhaps the best part of this book. The story itself just didn't strike me as very funny. The cats have a book but it is a book meant only for cats, titled Cat secrets. So they decide to test the readers to make sure they care cats. During this process, a mouse, very much one of the taboo readers of this book, keep trying to get the book. Will the mouse succeed? I'll leave you to find out from the book! What the book would be helpful in, is giving wriggling kids a bit of a break from sitting since it wants to do things like see how they can stretch like a ... morecat, etc. So while I don't think I'd want to use this book very often, it would be a good backup book to pull out if you're losing control of the kids but don't want to cut story time short.
review 2: Mommy's review from 11/20/11 - This was.... kind of funny. The end fell way flat to me but I did laugh a time or two. Julia loved the beginning, when the main cat was speaking directly to her.She liked the test given to the reader. She liked the mouse in the background a lot.But then the whole book just totally ends with the catnap thing. That's it. Poof. Gone. End. There had to have been a better ending.I'm pained that Julia's making us vote for this in the GR poll. But I told her that if we read all, or most, of the books shown she can pick for herself. I don't think she's grasped the whole seriousness of it (especially for her OCD-driven Mother) but what can I do. I can only hope the rest of you out there didn't promise your kids the same thing and I hope you're voting for Llama Llama Home with Mama or Me... Jane. Go! Vote! It ends today. I think. less
