The Kings of Clonmel, by John Flanagan

When a cult springs up in neighboring Clonmel, promising to quell the recent attacks by lawless marauders, people flock all over to offer them gold in exchange for protection. But Halt is all to familiar with this particular group, and he knows that they have a less than charitable agenda. Secrets will be unveiled and battles fought to the death as Will and Horace help Halt in riding the land of a dangerous enemy.

I loved this book so much!!!! It was the perfect blend of suspense and drama. There was lots of action, which I love. And the villains weren’t really trying to kill them until the end of the book. I really enjoyed reading this book. Here’s why.

The characters were very realistic. Or, as realistic as fictional characters can get. I loved their humor quite a lot. I think that all of the characters were very close to perfect. As I have said throughout all of the book reviews concerning this series all of the characters were very fleshed out. I love these characters so much. They are like my little babies!!!!

My favorite character in this book was Horace. I didn’t know that he had a devious side. It was impressive. I hope that Horace uses that devious side more often. He might make a good Ranger after all.

The villains were perfectly villainous and evil. Even if it was not the kind of evil that you normally read about. I will not spoil any of it, but at first I was shocked at what the cult was doing.

Tennyson was not the villain that I expected either. He was very different. Aren’t villains supposed to know how to use a sword? But most villains don’t have bruisers to take care of their dirty work either. So Tennyson was a different kind of bad guy. It was weird. And I think that this isn’t the last that we will be seeing of him.

The plot was very intense. There was lots of suspense and battles. There was also some sneaking around and spying, something I do when I’m not reading or blogging. It was very intense. But that is not to say that there weren’t some feels. Long lost brothers being one of them. There were lots and lots of plot twists. And since sometimes the characters had to split up Will would know something really important and Halt and Horace would be left in the dark. Sometimes I had to put down the book and breathe for a few seconds to remind myself that nothing would happen to them. I think that is the sign of a good plot.

The setting was very well written. I could imagine myself there and going with the Rangers and Horace. My bookish favorite character. I enjoyed reading about the barricades that the villagers put up to fight off the raiders. It showed how poor they were and how desperate they were.  I can’t wait to read more of the series. I highly suggest it.

I really love this book and series and I think that everyone should read it. That means that I want you to read the books. Please remember to fill out my survey. You can find the link on my about page. Thanks for Reading!!! Have a Great Day!!!! -Annalee and Buttons
