review 1: Before I even started this book, I knew that I would love it because of how much I loved Loves Sacred Song. However, when starting this book, I thought that it might be hard to read about the struggles of Job. I think that having Dinah as the main characters gave the story of Job a fresh perspective. The name Dinah was familiar to me as I began reading, and then I realized that she is the same Dinah whose story is told in Genesis. Dinah was a very interesting character, who I related to, because she struggles with forgiveness of her past mistakes. I enjoyed reading about Dinah's friend Nogahla who added insight and humor to the story. There were a lot of scenes in the novel that made me laugh. For instance, when Jacob and Essau are very old men, yet they are bickering and ... morefighting with each other. Their great- great grandson Job tells them to stop. I really loved Mesu's writing style. It is very unique and visually detailed. She used many similes in the novel that worked very well. I loved how so many characters from the Bible tied into the story. This was a great novel that I am going to recommend to everyone.
review 2: I want to read more of Mesu Andrews' books. This story was very challenging for me to read--my mind got easily sidetracked as I tried to fit what I was reading into what I remembered of the Bible narrative. I was intrigued with how this story gave my mind license to imagine how biblical stories actually could have impacted the safety, love, fears, bodies, and relationships of the main characters taken from the Bible.
