Just as it has been a great year for film, 2017 has been a wonderful year for music. After much deliberation and a review of the year’s offerings, here are my top 10 albums of the year.
10. Niall Horan – Flicker
Niall’s solo music is definitely my favourite out of all the One Direction boys. He has such a lovely, gentle voice. Flicker is such a nice listen. I’d really hoped I’d love this album, and I wasn’t disappointed. I’m very much looking forward to Niall’s solo career.
Favourite song: This Town
9. The Front Bottoms – Going Grey
I only discovered The Front Bottoms this July, when they supported blink-182. They’ve now become one of my favourite bands. Going Grey is so chill and such easy listening, and their sound is exactly what I feel I’ve been missing. I’m so looking forward to seeing them again next year.
Favourite song: Vacation Town
8. Imagine Dragons – Evolve
I absolutely love Imagine Dragons, but I wasn’t so impressed by their last album, Smoke + Mirrors. I’m really happy that I love Evolve so much. Every song stands out for me, and it’s the Imagine Dragons sound that I know and love. I can’t wait to hear these songs live next year.
Favourite song: Believer
7. ROAM – Great Heights & Nosedives
ROAM are genuinely one of my favourite bands in the world. I’ve dropped a lot of pop punk bands this year, and they’re one of the very few I still absolutely love. Great Heights & Nosedives is a wonderful debut album, and I’m so happy for them, as they’re such nice guys.
Favourite song: Playing Fiction
6. You Me At Six – Night People
In my opinion, You Me At Six go from strength to strength with each album. Night People is awesome. Their sound is huge, and songs like Spell It Out could fill arenas. Most of the songs on this album stand out, and I don’t find myself ever getting bored when listening to it. I’m really looking forward to seeing where they go next.
Favourite song: Take On the World
5. Enter Shikari – The Spark
Enter Shikari are probably the best band in the world. No other band is on their level, right now. The way the songs sound live have made The Spark even more amazing for me. Every song is beautiful, meaningful, and so wonderfully put together. I love everything about this band, this album, and the memories I have attached to it.
Favourite song: The Sights
4. WSTR – Red, Green or Inbetween
I love WSTR so much, and I’m proud to say I’ve been a fan from the start. I absolutely adored their first EP, SKRWD, and I’m so happy to say that their debut album has not disappointed me in any way. It’s the infectious pop punk sound that I absolutely love, and I can see these guys becoming huge in the next few years.
Favourite song: Featherweight
3. Lower Than Atlantis – Safe In Sound
2017 has been a huge year for Lower Than Atlantis. Safe In Sound is a truly brilliant album. The songs are huge, and they sound amazing live. I love this band more than anything in this world, and the success they’re seeing is so well deserved. I’m biased, but they really are one of the most underrated bands in the UK. I can’t wait to see what heights they reach next.
Favourite song: I Would
2. Creeper – Eternity, In Your Arms
Eternity, In Your Arms is without a doubt the most stunning album of the year. Creeper are so incredible and totally unique. They are so, so important. Every song on this album is stunning beyond belief. The album is a total theatrical experience. I can see Creeper becoming huge in the next couple of years, and they absolutely deserve it.
Favourite song: Hiding With Boys
1. blink-182 – California (Deluxe Edition)
I almost feel like I’m cheating here, because California was released last year, but the second disc on the re-release has enough songs to make a new album, so it definitely counts. This is the album that sountracked my summer. There are a whole lot of songs on this album, and I love every single one of them. I love this album and this band so deeply that I just couldn’t not make it my number one. It really is perfect to me, and it will always remind me of the summer of 2017.
Favourite song: Parking Lot
HAPPY NEW YEAR!
