review 1: 4.5 stars. One of the best "life advice/ cancer advice" books I've read. Brett's journalism experience is evident with her high quality writing. She really knows how to tell a story with depth and conciseness. Though she is a survivor, there is no "whinyness" or "see how strong I was and look how I got through this" here. She gives all the credit where it is due - to God. The book seems wise, never "preachy."I like the way each chapter is short. They can be bit off in manageable portions, because there is LOTS of wisdom here. The "lessons" range from money to sex to gratitude. I used several of them at a cancer support group.
review 2: Meh. The beginning chapters were fairly innocuous, but early-to-mid-book the author went into "woe-is-me" mode. If she had any
... more negative behavioral issues they was blamed on her childhood. I admit to being particularly biased against this sort of blame game, and I found it irritating. Whoever did the editing of the book to place the stories in the order they appear was genius, because they appear to show improvement in the author's character as the book progresses. I have a niggling feeling this may not be the case. I did like the lesson about letting things go to make room for new things. Unfortunately, the positive messages were mitigated for me by a dislike of the author's voice, and the mention at every turn of what she learned at yet another "retreat" . less

Good for when you need a get-off-your-rear-and-do-something book
