review 1: I've read all RG's books and finished Burn with Me back in October. I got too busy to review it, but since I just finished an A.R.C. of Make me Burn, the newest installment in this series I figured I should give you my take on both books.Burn with Me is Ms. Alexander's first dip into the urban fantasy romance genre and honestly it was more of a cannonball splash:) The world building is rich, as was the scene description, which is critical in urban fantasy. The plot evolves at a good steady pace, but RG is careful not to reveal too much since you're only seeing the world from Aziza's perspective. The heroine, Aziza, is a bad ass with nothing left to lose so she's kind of a danger magnet. Also, a super hot guy magnet. She gets the attention of a mountain of a werewolf, Brand... moreon, and a beautiful yet charming Jinn named Ram. I don't know who Aziza will end up with when the series ends, but personally I couldn't choose a Team;) Mainly because the character development of all the players in this story is so real and believable. They're all so distinctive and genuine, heroic and flawed in their own ways. Here's the part that I think really sets this series apart from most other paranormals that I've read. The Jinn and the Niyr. The Jinn are definitely not your wish granting, singing, pop out of a bottle in parachute pants genies. These are the Jinn from antiquity. It's obvious that RG has done some research on the myth of the Jinn. They're cunning, powerful, passionate and dangerous, and that definitely comes through on the page. Then there are the Niyr, the enemies of the Jinn. Umm, creepy and cold. The way these creatures are written they totally deserve to be the other side of the coin to the Jinn. Finally some unique and fresh paranormal creatures!!! Both have very distinct cultures and agendas which makes for some intriguing back story. All in all this is a must read, to be followed quickly by Make me Burn as soon as it comes out in May!
review 2: Gave it 3.5 stars. I started out kinda slow, but I make myself keep reading. So I was happy when it picked up. Aziza was born a Fireborne something she didn't know until she was in her 20's. Originally that title should have gone to one of her brother's. However both had been killed. In order to keep her friends alive she has to except her title. Greg (her best friend, and her Aunt Penn who is her last living relative)She will keep 4 supernatural groups at peace or at least from killing one another, one group would be happy to have the war. She must keep the line of Fireborne going/but is only suppose to have a child with a human. Not that she's worried about it yet. That's also going to cause problems since she's got the hots for a warrior shifter, and has feelings for one of her bodyguards who happens to be a Jinn. The next 2 books are out, so I don't have to wait to long to read them. less
