review 1: I really liked this story, very different and powerful in such a short story format. The story takes place in a timeline of an emperor who regrets an action that has sent his life down a certain path. As an old man he is looking at his life, remembering years of regret. It is somber. I think its kind of the opposite of what was expected from the prompt, but its also the reason I like it so much. And the ending has a bit of a twist; it is a bit confusing at first so I had to re-read it twice but when I got it I was delighted. Its an unusual story, not when is expected traditionally from a romance but beautifully written it gives so much more.
review 2: I personally wasn’t a huge fan of this story. I was not pleased with the ending. It was inconclusive and conf
... moreusing. The story was in the form of a ‘letter’.. Our MC is reminiscing about his life as it comes to an end. You learn about the love of his life and how he died. And how he truly never got over it. At the very end after he dies, there is a ‘letter’ written to someone to come attend the funeral. Now it seems like it is addressed to Hans(lover who was dead)? First did he come back to life? I thought it was suppose to give them a happy ending. If Hans was magically brought back to life, then why is Frederick dead. They weren’t reunited at all. I was expecting a happy ending because of the prompt, but I guess not. less
