review 1: This is just another book written by an old man who, for inexplicable reasons, has an obsession with a woman. The book tries way too hard (and unsuccessfully) to be about a murder committed after the movie, Psycho, came out, which has nothing to do with the girl in the shower. This author is so fascinated by this woman that he spends a huge amount of time explaining the difference between a body-double and a stand-in (she was whichever one is better and who cares?). She was a B movie actress who lived a pretty boring life and retired (oh, amazingly!) near where the last movie she was in was filmed. Really a very disappointing book.
review 2: What a mess! This book could have been 3 or even 4 different Vanity Fair articles versus a rambling mess. As a Hitchc
... moreock fan and a crime fiction fan, I was totally disappointed by this book. It should have just been a novella (small but concise). The whole mob connection did not make sense. The only thing that I happened to enjoy was all the little bits of random trivia ( i.e. Michael Douglas was on set as prodution assistant & F.F.C. did nudie cuties & all the Hefner stuff.) Thank God I only paid a dollar for this book, I should have know better. less

The narrative, although well researched, built up to a connection that never materialized.

I wish there had been more about the specific crime and not as much of a period piece.

Thought it would be more interesting than it was -
