review 1: Can you create magic with baking a few cakes? When I started reading this book, I was immediately reminded of my beloved favorite, Like Water for Chocolate by Laura Esquivel, and the movie Simply Irresistible. I knew immediately that this book was the right book for me since it had all the magical elements with touches of romance that I absolutely adore. I very much loved the concept of Batter Up. I was delighted to read how one could create magic just by baking cakes on Mondays. The fact that the magic seemed to work only on men was very intriguing. I wanted to know more why the magic worked this way. The magical elements in this book was what really caught my attention and made me devour this book. It was quirky and simply a feel-good type of read. The characters were als... moreo great. I found myself loving Emma and Jason. Emma was a very caring person who enjoyed bringing couples together through her special cakes. Jason was a funny Miami reporter who went out to research the magic behind Emma's baking. It was obvious that these two would get together right away, but I found myself having absolute fun reading how everything happened. The only downside that I found with this book was how it quickly wrapped everything up. The ending felt too rushed. I would have liked for the events at the last third of the book to be expanded more. It would have been nice to have read a proper goodbye with these cherished characters. To sum up, this was a very fun and cute read. I love magical realism in books and this one definitely had it. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys some adorable reads.
review 2: I received this book as an ARC for an honest review. I loved the book, it is set in a small town in New York called Buttermilk Falls. I loved the small town atmosphere where everyone knew every else's business. This book was laugh out lot funny at times and with lots of romance between Emma and her "Summer Fling" Jason. Jason came to town because he had heard of Emma's batter up Monday Nights where the bachelors of Buttermilk Falls who are ready to settle down put their names in the lottery to get their names chosen for Emma to tell them their love match's name. When Emma stirs the cupcake batter the lucky man's true loves name is revealed in the batter. Jason wants to ride a story for his newspaper and expose her but he falls in love with her. Emma wants nothing to do with someone out to expose her bakery. But will magic and true love find a way? Great Read! less
