review 1: (3.5 stars) While I initially thought that would be a light chick-lit type of book, the title is actually quite fitting as there is tragedy and heartbreak of several types that occurs to the characters as well as new love and friendship. The book centers around Hannah, who is just getting ready to open her cupcake bakery in a small Irish village. She is on her way to her celebratory dinner with family and friends when her boyfriend breaks up with her and moves out. Even though she is heartbroken and deeply worried about money, she is convinced by her best friend, Adam to give it 7 months (until his birthday) to make a go of it. We also see her ex, Patrick in his new relationship which has caused him to split from Hannah, Adam's interest in a shy musician and the lengths he... more goes to interact with her, a potential new relationship for Hannah, and the relationship of her parents with both Hannah and some family friends who have some deeper issues. This was a nice balance between romance, real life, and of course, cupcakes.
review 2: I didn't understand this book or its reason for being. It was full of the most disparate stories and it would jump around constantly in a pointless way. I didn't really need to see things from Hannah's, Adam's, Patrick's, Leah's, Nora's, Geraldine's, Alice's, Fiona's, John's, Wally's, and Vivienne's point of view. Good grief. And after all that, I didn't feel particularly connected to any one of them. less
