review 1: Ryan Loveless does a fantastic job of depicting Ethan's ABI and how it affects him sexually, from his impaired impulse control to explicit behaviour that would normally be considered lewd and inappropriate but obviously not here. Ethan is just like any virile young man, he wants an active (safe) sex life which his wonderful family do everything to accomodate, but there are moments when the childlike innocence of Ethan's literal thoughts are shown and I couldn't help feeling uncomfortable because, in reality, he is not like other virile young men. My judgement may be slightly clouded by knowing someone with ABI and the knowledge that while they are a sexual person who dreams of having a sexual partner it is a constant concern for their family that someone might take advanta... morege of the openness of their desires. Unlike the relationship between Carter and Ethan which is unequivocally consensual and beautifully depicted but I still had that odd niggle that prevented me giving myself over whole heartedly to their love story, much as I adored both characters; this feels unfair to Ryan who obviously did extensive research to ensure the authentic depiction of sexuality and ABI.
review 2: This strange book is such an unlikely tale that I'll call it a fantasy. The MC's are very sheltered men with significant physical and physiological problems. The author tackled two very difficult subjects with evident compassion, but I was never able to believe that these men would, or could, form a stable relationship. I don't want to dissuade anyone from reading the book. It's so unusual, and a bit of a heart tugger, that many will react more strongly than I have, and with more passion. I'm tempted to add a star for the absence of the cookie cutter pseudo-hetero sex scenes that so many female authors seem to feel necessary. The blurb gives enough info for your decision making. less
