review 1: This book had a mix of characteristics which had me all over the place as far as how I felt about this book. I was pulled into the story of A Brand New Ending from the beginning and although the subject matter was tough, the storyline was intriguing. About half way through this story, it kind of went off the rails for me. I struggled getting through this part of the book and felt the dialogue and story became lethargic and significant parts felt unnecessary. I lost that connection with the characters which had pulled me into their story in the first half of the book. Fortunately, it picked up again later in the book and then caught me off guard at the end.As far as the characters go, I really enjoyed Rain. The connection of Phoenix and Braedon didn’t feel believabl... moree. I didn’t feel the insta-love that was going on. Although I “felt” for Phoenix, I didn’t really get a connection with her. The writing style was just okay for me. The flow was off and the pace was either too fast or too slow. It just didn’t fully work for me.A Brand New Ending by SA Rolls was an okay read for me. Overall I liked the story and wanted to see it through to the end and see where it was taking me. I just didn’t “love” it. Nonetheless, this book is worth reading, but the storyline was depressive, although elicits an emotional reaction. Give it a try! 3.5 stars.
review 2: 3.5 stars...I was blown away by this book. It definitely isn’t like other books out there. Phoenix hasn’t had it easy losing her father and having to go live with her mother and her mother’s abusive husband. She hits rock bottom and attempts suicide. This suicide attempt ended up saving her life in more ways than one.I liked the fact that about half of this book took place in the hospital. Her stay there after her suicide attempt wasn’t sugar coated. Her friendship with Braeden is inevitable. They seem to connect on a different level because of their life experiences. The real test is once she is out of the hospital and has to begin her life again. Alone. No parents. Her struggles and pain are evident and relatable. The only thing that I was really missing in this book was some one-on-one time with her doctors while in the hospital. I think this book would have hit a lot harder, emotionally, if we could have experienced some of her therapy sessions. We would have gotten some better insight to what was going on in her head a little better. Because we didn’t truly get to know the characters, the connection between her and Braeden seemed a little forced and rushed. less
