review 1: Can't say I loved this book but it definately gave me a clearer understanding of what was/is going on in Afghanistan. The book is about an Afghan born woman, how she became an American citizen and how she became an interpreter in Afghanistan for the U.S. Military. All the while talking about her feeling about both the U.S. and Afghanistan. After her first tour, I found the book starts to fall apart and she starts to make more general statements.Although she did not say it, I found the author still finding it difficult to call herself an American, and at times I felt she had a strong dislike for Americans as if it was her against Americans. This left me feeling dissatisfied with the book because she never acknowledges this feeling nor resolve it. It's what kept me from ... moregiving it 4 stars instead of 3.
review 2: I had different expectations than what I received from this book. I didn't think it would as much of a memoir as it turned out to be. I thought it would be more about the war and conflict and not her personal struggle to find her calling. I enjoyed it in spite of this, and it was useful to read her side of things as she was able to help bridge a small number of gaps between two different cultures. It is interesting how most conflicts exist due to lack of understanding of the other side. I enjoyed reading her take as an Afghan and an American. less

Not impressed. I didn't like her. So I wasn't interested in her life.
