review 1: Oh, what is it blessed to be young and in love! This short tale of love takes place in England in the year 1880. The annual spring ball at Abbotsbury Park has attracted all of the landed gentry in the area. Alice Berrington, poor cousin to the neighboring Berrington’s is in attendance. She is sought after and cornered by the host of the ball, Richard, Lord Abbotsbury and succumbs to his passionate advances. They are discovered by Alice’s cousin Jessica and the storm breaks over this rural part of England. Sandra Heath has written many books and is a renowned for her abilities at storytelling. This is a Cinderella story void of graphic sex but brimming with love and passion. Like most fairytales it sometimes borders the unrealistic/trite sphere but nevertheless leaves t... morehe reader with a feeling on contentment and happiness. It washes away the years of the elderly reading eyes and once more affords a glimpse of how life and love was when you are young. Some may consider it corny but I, for one, found it refreshing and inspiring. Many are sure to share my feelings. To those I warmly recommend this novella and wish you happy reading.
review 2: Seemed more like an outline for a longer story than a complete novella to me. I wish I knew more about how the hero came to know the heroine and fall in love with her. I doubt that it was that he saw her for the first time at the ball. Of course, none of that is mentioned in this story for there isn't enough room here. I can imagine my own backstory and I guess that's what I'm supposed to do. This was just the climax and resolution with none of what led to it. I think it was a good start, but I was left unsatisfied as the reader. Too many questions left unanswered. C+ rating. less
