review 1: I enjoy Sandra Tsing Loh and how her mind fires. Stream of consciousness. I can relate. I tend to bounce around in my own world of non sequiturs. I suspect she has the benefit of an editor going over her work. Anyway river, I appreciate her addressing the quandary of searching for the "right" school for her young daughter. I faced that quest twenty some years ago in LA/Pasadena for my kids. I joined the Boomer exodus from public school to private school. In today's economy, were I faced with the choice, I would have to work with public education and be very proactive. As far as this books goes . . . .it meanders a bit. Her other efforts have been stronger.
review 2: I loved this book. As a mother who has gone through some of the same things Loh writes about in
... moreher book, and especially as a developing artist, I really related to the story. Loh is very funny and I loved the way the book wrapped up. It helped me feel more settled and relaxed about the way I parent, and feel that I'm not alone in my many worries and wishes for my children. Though the narrative was a bit uneven, at times feeling like cobbled-together blog posts or commentaries, overall an excellent book. less
