Feel-Good Books for the Holidays

I don’t like to read Chritmas-themed books. I don’t know, they seem a little hokey to me. Also, they tend to be romancy, which isn’t really my thing.

However, at this time of year I do prefer a lighter read, preferably one that gives me all the warm fuzzies. Bonus points if its set in the winter, but I’m really not going to go out of my way to find that.

So. Here are five books along those lines that I would recommend at this time of year.

1. Landline by Rainbow Rowell

I’m an absolute sucker for Rainbow Rowell’s books, and of the ones I’ve read this has been the most feel-good. It really left me overwhelmed with all of the feels. I loved the realistic adult romance, as well as the family aspect. Bonus points, it’s actually set over Christmas!

2. Ella Enchanted by Gail Carson Levine

This book always makes me feel good. I mean, I know its for kids or whatever, but I’m still in love with it. It’s a funny, sarcastic, enchanting take on Cinderella. If you haven’t read it before, the holiday season might be a good time to give it a go!

3. The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien

While not the lightest read on this list, The Hobbit has such a silly tone that I always fly through it. Since I like to laugh during the holidays and this book never fails to make me laugh out loud, I like to read it in the winter.

4. Mrs. Queen Takes the Train by William Kuhn

This absolutely enchanting book is about Queen Elizabeth getting tired of the every day grind and running away for a day. A misfit cast attempts to find her, care for her, or bring her home with plenty of silliness along the way. It definitely left me feeling warm and fuzzy inside.

5. Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen

I find this to be a light read, anyway. I often find myself reading Pride and Prejudice around the holidays because it is my favorite book of all time, and Christmas is my favorite time of year. What better combo?
